I have been to the royal Pink City many times in recent months. But every time something gets missed. The heritage town has so much to explore that every time someone recommends a new activity, and it leaves me wanting to come back for more.

  1. Amber Fort tunnel walk: the beautiful fort of the Jodha Akbar fame has a newly-opened tunnel. Though well-lit and broadened now, this is a true adventure spot with its narrow stone steps and high walls, the enclosed space can be a little overwhelming if you have a weak heart. This 1-km-long tunnel opens in the hills and then it’s another 8-km uphill walk to the Jaigarh Fort. Since, it’s a hot, hot land, I’m waiting for the winters to do this adventure walk and find out what it feels like to be a soldier on the run or chasing thieves. I also need to explore the temple dedicated to Meera at the foot of the Fort. This is said to be the only temple dedicated to the woman who was in love with Krishna and gave up her royal life for this bhakti.
  1. Eat dal-batti near the bus stand. I believe this traditional dish has a different flavour there.

  1. Though people say the Nahargarh Fort does not have much to offer, its sparkling lights in the evening beckon me every time I see them. I am definitely going there just for a view of the city from the top at dusk.
Where I can stay if I am on a comfort tour? Two hotels I have been to earlier, I would not mind to going again:
  1. Leisure Inn Grand Chanakya run by Staywell Hospitality Group. Well located at MI Road, the hotel has 52 rooms. It is reasonably priced, has a spa, business centre, wi-fi, rooftop restaurant Arya Bar & Grill, European food at Café Viva and traditional Rajasthan food at Grand Chanakya. The hotel is neat and clean, rooms are large enough to have a comfortable stay and service is offered with a smile.
  2. Golden Oak, with a night club Blackout on the rooftop, this is a youngster’s paradise. The hotel has different kinds of rooms such as Aquarium rooms. And works well for a traveller who is keener on exploring the city than staying indoors. It is reasonably priced and also located in one of the city’s posh colonies. It has a tie-up with the Aura Thai Spa for its guests.
