There’s something about the winter sun that makes you long to stay out in the open. And when this open is a rooftop at one of Delhi’s plush restaurants, it gets even better amidst the green plants and a bunch of happy eaters. The year has changed, but the December 2014 brunch at Indigo Deli, Ambience Mall, Delhi, remains a distinct fragrance even now.
The day had begun with a long drive, so the Red Sangria tasted yum. The flavours of fruits and the yum wine worked wonders in relaxing the body and mind. The table laden with food, the group of us chatted about everything under the sun. Chef Ritwik and his team worked on the dishes sending us all kinds of meats and sandwiches and burgers. The rooftop has a live grill and the aromas will compel you to eat more than you wish to.
The Deli offers a variety of meats—beef, pork, fish, squids, prawns. And there’s greens galore too. Actually, it would have got difficult to choose what to eat and not to, but the Chef helped in deciding what’s interesting.
I began with a tomato plum soup which was simply mouth melting. Since I am not a pork and beef eater, I stuck to the chicken, prawns, squids and fish. And the presentation is good along with the taste. The Pepper Chicken Roomali is worth mentioning as it was one of the softest roomalis I have eaten and it went well for me as I am not a chilly fan. And this was my first time with squids, but the Beer Batter Fried Squids are the perfect starters to a happy meal.
What you must try though for brunch is Eggs Benedict. Cooked to perfection, they are the best way to begin your meal.
A little hesitantly, I did take a bite of the BBQ Pork Ribs and it was nice. Though everyone insisted that I try the Pizza Chorizo, Corn Crusted Potato Jalapeno Burger and Pulled Pork Burger, I did not brave it out. But going by their insistence, I would say do try them.
Other dishes you would like to try out are Lemon Butter Calamari, Stuffed Corn fed Chicken, Creamed Spinach and Mushroom pizza and Chilly Cheese Steak Sandwich.
And the brunch ended with a sugar-free fruit tart which had really fresh fruit. But the tart could have been more crumbly. Then there was ice-cream range to choose from. Chocolate desserts are always a favourite with most of us, so you have to dig into one.
And to keep the taste buds tingling, I would say bring home the jams and the dips there. And if you can, do have them with the fresh breads available there.
Loads of food, tons of laughter, it was a merry afternoon which carried on till 4 pm and we wound up with a cup of green tea and a deli basket. But this year I am going back to try all the other goodies in the evening with a romantic partner for Indigo Deli has that warm, cosy, intimate ambience.
