February has begun well. The breeze sings as spring is approaching and the birds are in love. And it’s also time for Luise to come to India. An Austrian, I had met Luise while we had done Vipassana at the Sohna centre. And she has also has friends along. Delhi will be a long stay for them. And she wants me to find her a nice, comfortable place, not too expensive, so that they can spend time and money on sight seeing and enjoying the local flavours. So began my search for budget hotels in Delhi. And I was surprised that a traveler has a vast choice. It’s not just budget hotels, there’s also bed and breakfast hotels in Delhi. People also have a choice from a lot of affordable hotels in Delhi. Comfort and hygiene being the prime needs for this Austrian group, I think I will fix a time to visit some bed and breakfast hotels in Delhi first.
Bed and breakfast hotels in Delhi seemed like a good idea as it has a more homely feel. A place with less people and more warmth, something India is best known for. Bed and breakfast places are normally more comfortable as a friend had told me some time back, its more personal and easy on the pocket. And she went on to list some more things which were nice about the bed and breakfast places in Delhi. Some offer a storage facility such as fridge, so guests staying for a longer term have the advantage of keeping some edibles in the fridge such as fruits and juices or even breads. Another facility offered by bed and breakfast is the electric kettle; there might be a common pantry for this. At least, the guest can always have Maggie. A dedicated person stays in-house, facilitating the guests for their laundry and other needs. As most bed and breakfast places are in the residential colonies of Delhi, the ambience is nice and a local market can fulfill the needs of the guests.
On the other hand the advantage of a hotel is that there is room service or the attendant can help you with small needs. There is the facility of a doctor and travel and tour desk. You can order a car or take an auto around Delhi. As I was discussing this with friends, I thought it would be nice to find some clean and comfortable places in South Delhi which would fit Luise’s budget. I searched onine and found Hotel Beyond in Malviya Nagar, Buddha Apartment in South Extension Part II, Essence Bed & Breakfast in Lajpat Nagar IV, Alrahman Homes in Nizamuddin West, Vandanas in Safdarjung Enclave and more. I think I will have to spend a Sunday choosing one for the Austrian group. But most of these would work around well in their sightseeing as they are close to the spots they have decided to see in this trip.
