As Chew offers a wide range of Pan Asian food, every time is fun time there. In my last visit, I tried the Teppayanki. The experience is more thrilling when you sit at the counter by the teppan (grill), watching the chef and also adding or subtracting the chosen ingredients. But as we are more than what the corner could accommodate, we stood and watched and saw the chef putting together some delectable grilled veggies and non-veg dishes.
The restaurant has a nice chilled out ambience. It seems to be great hit with women coming for shopping at Connaught Place. And since I was the only who had not tried the Dirty Granita, that was what I ordered with the grilled dishes. But a little help from the Chef on pairing drinks and food is a much wiser choice in case you decide to enjoy your meal the real Japanese way.
For those like me who were experiencing Teppayanki for the first time in its live avatar, this is traditional style of Japanese cuisine where the Chef works with an iron-griddle.
Well, the menu offers a delectable mix–Grilled Prawns, Crispy Chicken, Chicken Teriyaki, Assorted Mushrooms, Grilled Mixed Vegetables and Mixed Fried Rice.
What I did like were the Grilled Prawns, a must try for seafood lovers. The chef uses the traditional teriyaki sauce and just sprinkles salt, pepper and some other spices. The food is light and easy to digest, little wonder the Japs are known for long lives and good health.
But watching the chef prepare the Mixed Fried Rice was fun. And eating it with chopsticks even more fun. As always service is with a smile and we ended the meal with pots of Royal White and Jasmine Tea. Let me warn you, both are very light but the Jasmine one has a little stronger flavour as compared to Royal White, so choose what goes with your palette.
All in all, a must try sitting at the Teppayanki Table to make it an experience to remember.
