Fragrance of fresh bread, creamy pastries and sour dough sandwiches. As India’s culinary flavours mingle with the west, encashing on the opportunity is Lite Bite foods. Very much a breakfast and high tea culture in Europe, boulangeries and patisseries offer something for everyone. There’s a quick bite for the people on the go, a snack for those wanting a bit of rest or a leisure café culture for those who have time on their hands. The Artful Baker offers a bite for all and the variety in a choice of breads from different countries of the European continent.
I have yet to see the new outlet, but I experienced the pop-up at Select City Walk mall, Saket, Delhi. Fascinated by the French names, I tried the sour dough chicken sandwich which looked like it had less calories and I was correct.
Other interesting snacks were Monte Cristo and Paris Brest, I dug into the chocolaty Paris and the quiche like Count of Monte Cristo. The man behind the offerings is Brand Chef Sahil Mehta. A certified bakery, pastry and chocolate expert from Lenotre, France, he has worked with Choco Diva, Renaissance and L’opera. Chef Sahil talks about what’s baking at the Khan Market outlet. Excerpts:
Bakery concept: It’s European but Indians love it too. Delhi is an evolving market and it makes sense to have such bakeries in India.
Products: Pastries from France, calzones from Italy, cakes and breads from Germany and more, it’s a mix from different places.
Fave ingredient: French cream
Fave bread: Sour dough
Why is cinnamon not a baker’s delight? Not true, infrequently used because of its strong flavor but we are soon going to have a bread with cinnamon, and you find it in our apple tart.
What The Artful Baker will offer in Khan Market: A delicious range of breakfast and bakeries, salads and sandwiches, pizzas, mains and grills, picnic baskets, desserts, refreshing drinks and a selection of beers and wines.
