Amazing geography and diverse cuisines and cultures, this is Incredible India! Each region is a continent in itself with its unique arts, people, habits and attitudes. So when moving from one part of the country to the other, it’s best to do a little bit of research and make note of some the points unique to the region.
Being born and brought up in the north of India, work took me to Chennai. I learned some things about the Deccan there. So what exactly is the Deccan region? It’s the Deccan plateau making up the north-western parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. And in this region, also comes northeast corner of Chattisgarh. Let me share what I learned in Chennai and maybe it would help you too:
- Language and dialect: The script here is completely different from the North and the East, so you might not understand the language. But luckily most people here understand English. So best to carry a guide or learn a few words and then go.
