It was a Saturday morning amidst the greens of Classic Golf & Country Club with 100 players vying to reach the finals in Antalya, Turkey this October.
The breeze flowed and the birds chirped but the 100 players were busy with their golf sticks. The 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, among the largest amateur tournaments, took place at Classic Golf & Country Club, India. This was the seventh of 100 qualifiers for the global event, which featured 100 players, courtesy Turkish Airlines.
Ravi Burman, Director ,Urgent Care Hospital won the individual competition with 45 points and progresses to the Grand Final in Antalya, Turkey, this October and November.
The first qualifiers took place in Dar Es Salaam, Mumbai and Doha in February and the 2016 series takes place across the globe, in destinations including Hong Kong, Great Britain, South Korea, Japan, China, Spain, the United States, Portugal, Italy, France, Greece, Argentina, Brazil and Turkey.
Turkish Airlines, which was recently voted Best Airline in Europe for the fifth consecutive year, as well as World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge and World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining in 2015, launched the World Golf Cup in 2013.
Talking about the airlines network, Ozer Guler, General Manager, Turkish Airlines, North and East, India said that Turkish flies to over 113 cities across the world.
On India, Guler commented that the aviation hub is moving towards the east from London. And India is growing rapidly; by 2025 it could be the second largest market. So the airline is keeping its eyes and ears open. “We have applied to start flights to the cities of Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Chennai, or any place we can get permission in India.” Turkish Airlines has daily flights to Delhi and Mumbai. Turkish also carries cargo in its belly-hold and is soon planning to buy Boeing 777s which will increase their capacity.
For corporates, there is the Turkish Corporate Club. Competitors are Lufthansa, Emirates, Air India but competition is good, elucidated Guler.
New flights from Istanbul will be launched to Miami, Atlanta, San Francisco, Toronto, Washington, Boston, New York, Bogota, Columbia, Panama.
