It prides itself in being the first Stock Exchange bar in Delhi and offers global cuisine
The brainchild of Himashu Gupta and Vidit Gupta, Café Dalal Street is located right in the heart of Delhi-Connaught Place. What’s unique is the fluctuating price of drinks, as the demand goes up, the price goes up, and dwindling demand means dwindling price. It’s also a place where you don’t need to call out for your order, there’s an app that you order through. So what this means is that you can drink, watch the tickers for every drink will come at a different price, and time is important. For those coming in early are bound to get a better price point. But even the highest price point does not cross the market rates, so a beer could go from Rs 55-99. The idea germinated while the two youngsters were studying abroad and they developed it over a year and emerged with a dalal street for drinks.
“Once a day, the market crashes as well, so customers can trade their favourite spirits and purchase at rock bottom prices. Trading then begins all over again from this new set base price,” says Vidit Gupta.
Celebrating its 100 days of good food and drinks, Chef Hemant Singh came up with some interesting dishes. And interestingly, it’s not a restaurant which forgets the vegetarians. The food was innovative and tasty, the blend of spices catering to the Indian palate and very apt for the whiskies and the rums most of us like. Even the beer drinkers would enjoy these.
In the starters, we tasted Tossed Idli with Spring Onion, Jalapeno Poppers, Tawa Paneer Gol Gappe (must eat), Wok Crispy Chicken with Brunt Chilly (truly chilly, try with a lighter drink), Saffron Chicken Skewer, Butter Chicken Gol Gappe (another must eat innovation), Wasabi Prawns, Shrimp Tacos, Mutton Galouti Kebab.
I didn’t have time for the full lunch, but just to share what was there: Poached Pears Salad, Chicken Tikka Salad, Malabar Paratha with Chettinad Chicken, Chilly Mutton Idli with Lamb Samber, Chicken Steak with Cream and Red Wine Sauce, Turkish Lamb Pizza, Spinach Corn Pizza, Butter Chicken Pasta, Mutton Biryani, Brownie with Ice Cream, Banana Nutrella Crepes, Churros and Tiramisu
The ambience here is also all about stock exchange—it has been divided into sections with a huge bar which has special seating, separate PDR section has a rich yet cosy feel. The big Bull face installation on the walls add to the pace. The led tickers and TV screens make the space lively interactive. There is terrace seating too.
And there’s a stock for those who don’t like to drink alcohol too!
