There’s something which Delhi can never tire of and that’s kebabs, rumali roti rolls and biryanis

Sometimes new is exciting but comfort lies in the old. Especially when this old is a plush market like Defence Colony and caters to eternal favourite kebabs. The brainchild of three young men—Amit, Anuj and Girish, Koyla Kebab is where you can see what’s being cooked as you wait with a slim glass of Depaul’s cold coffee. The trio is not making any noise about bending the rules or changing the age old recipes, but offering quality traditional kebabs, rolls and stuffed kulchas along with biryanis. This ‘kebab café’ as they call it for those who want to enjoy their eternal favourite dishes cooked under hygienic conditions.

Though they have three ‘shop-in-shop’ outlets for the last years across Saket, GKII, this is their first exlcusive outlet. Interestingly none of them are formally trained in F&B. But the passion for food and good food led them to start Koyla Kebab five years back.

Girish, the man behind the menu, says that traditionally Delhites have always liked kebabs and eating out at places like Nizamuddin and Jama Masjid. So he thought of offering the old but gold dishes to everyone in South Delhi.

The menu comprises lot of traditional varieties such as galouti, kakori, boti, kali mirch ka tikka, malai tikka, chicken seekh and they are best enjoyed with some rumali roti. And I can vouch for the delectable meats cooked by the ‘ustad’ who has over 30 years of experience. That’s what the Chef is traditionally called, elucidates Anuj.

The paneer and mutton stuffed kulchas are the new entries into the menu and the paneer one is to die for. There is also a variety for the vegetarians, but the galouti and kakori must not be missed if you are a meat lover.

Koyla Kebab has a sitting area but most people prefer to take away. And there’s home delivery across Defence Colony, Jor Bagh, Lodi Colony, South Extentison, Lajpat Nagar and GKI. And they also cater to parties and the kebabs are cooked right there!
